oh yeah… blackberry to ical and back with a little help from google calendar

i’ve wanted to have a nice, wireless, wired, offline and/or mobile way of syncing not only my contacts, but more importantly my calendars and google, you came through again!

i’ve been using 30boxes.com for a few months now… actually, close to a year, and I’ve been more than happy with the way it works, how i can subscribe to my friend’s calendars (if they let me) but i had to either enter events from 30boxes site or their new mobile site (from the blackberry) and sometimes I’d just rather do it from iCal.

i use iCal to manage, in a nice, clean interface, all my calendar’s including birthdays (from address book), my work’s holiday calendar, my personal/work calendar and my girlfriend’s calendar (and more) and it makes it nice to see everything in one, open-source format aka CalDAV.

the iCal server on 10.5 sucks as you all know so that option is out. i’m not a supernerd/busy/escape artist dude so my friends do not send me evites via exchange but if they did it would still work…

now you ask, what would work?

the fact that now i can add calendars to my google calendar from my blackberry, iCal or gCal and it will sync in all three locations in a matter of minutes. it will also sync my old 30boxes, work cal’s and anything else i choose to add to my gCal like my girlfriend’s calendar, etc.

those take a few more seconds to sync to the mobile but hey, it works.

pushing contacts doesnt work yet, but 1/2 of my big complaint with blackberry has been resolved without spending a dime.

thank you google, 30boxes, apple and rim.
